As summer draws to a close, we’ve rounded up the high-end television and feature films which have been shooting across locations in England, outside of London, over the last three months. From Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps to the film adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling The Thursday Murder Club, discover what’s been filming near you.
East & South East
Pillion – Element Pictures/September Film
Where? Kent & wider South East
Led by Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, Pillion is an upcoming feature film about a young man who starts a relationship with a notorious leader of a motorbike gang. Production has been taking place in various locations in the South East, including Lullingstone Castle and Sevenoaks in Kent.
Thursday Murder Club – Amblin Entertainment/Netflix
Where? Shepperton Studios, Surrey
Steven Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment, are collaborating with Netflix to adapt Richard Osmon’s bestseller Thursday Murder Club as a feature film. An all-star cast have been announced, including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kinglsey and David Tennant. Production is underway at Shepperton Studios.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps –Disney
Where? Pinewood Studios, Reading
With a number of Marvel films having shot in Pinewood Studios already (X-Men: First Class, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man and the Wasp to name a few), Marvel have returned to the studio for their latest edition of The Fantastic Four. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.
Fuze – Sigma Films/Sky Cinema
Where? Kent
Featuring Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Theo James and Sam Worthington, upcoming heist film Fuze has been filming in Kent. The film follows a group of criminals who arrange a heist following the discovery of an undetonated bomb found in London.
Bridgerton Series 4 – Netflix
Where? Shepperton Studios, Surrey
Pictures have been released of new lead actors of Bridgerton series 4, Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha, as production has started on the fourth season of the much-loved TV series at Shepperton Studios.
Bugonia – Element Pictures/Universal
Where? Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
Following Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness, Yorgos Lanthimos is collaborating once again with Emma Stone for Bugonia; a remake of 2003 Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!.
South West:
Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery – Netflix
Where? The Bottle Yard Studios & Bristol Locations
Led by BAFTA rising star Mia McKenna-Bruce, Netflix are adapting Agatha Christie for a whole new generation with The Seven Dials Mystery, also starring Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman. The TV series started production at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol this summer.
The Famous Five Series 2 – Moonage Pictures/BBC
Where? The Bottle Yard Studios and on location across England
The second series of the BBC’s The Famous Five is the latest production to move into The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, created and executive produced by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Wasteman – Lionsgate
Where? Somerset
A directorial debut from up and coming director Calum Macdiarmid, prison thriller Wasteman has been filming in Somerset this summer.
Malory Towers Series 6 and 7 – BBC/King Bert Productions
Where? The Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Devon and Cornwall
Much loved TV show Malory Towers has returned to England to film two more series, having moved from a studio facility in Canada to The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol for series 5.
Midlands
Peaky Blinders Film – Netflix/Caryn Mandabach Productions
Where? Birmingham
In case you hadn’t heard, a Peaky Blinders film is on its way! Creator Steven Knight confirmed that production for the upcoming feature film will begin this September in Birmingham. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Thomas Shelby, joined by new cast members Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson.
North West:
CC: Emily – Working Title/Focus Features
Where? Manchester
Shooting in Manchester this August, CC:Emily is a new romantic comedy from the production team behind Bridget Jones. Set on a college campus, it features rising stars Spike Fearn and Angourie Rice and is directed by Alicia MacDonald.
House of Guinness – Kudos/Netflix
Where? Chester, Liverpool and Space Studios, Manchester
The latest project from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, House of Guinness follows the exceptional story of the Guiness Family, who were known for their achievements in brewing, banking and politics. The production is following the path of Peaky Blinders by using North West’s striking urban locations.
