From Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II to original BBC drama The City is Ours and Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, an eclectic mix of films and high-end TV shows have been filming in England over the past three months.

North West

Everyone Else Burns Season 2 – Jax Media UK/Universal International Studios 

Where? Manchester  

The second series of hit comedy Everyone Else Burns started filming in Manchester this spring, seeing Simon Bird and Kate O’Flynn return to our screens as leaders of the hyper-religious family living in Manchester.

Missing You – Quay Street Productions/ITV 

Where? Manchester and North West locations 

Another Harlen Coben adaptation in production, this time Missing You – executive produced by Coben himself through his production company Final Twist Productions. The adaptation will star Ashley Walters, James Nesbitt and Matt Jay-Willis.

The City is Ours – Left Bank Pictures/BBC 

Where? Liverpool  

New BBC crime drama The City is Ours is filming in Liverpool! The production is the latest to receive investment from the Liverpool City Region Production Fund via Liverpool Film Office

South West

The Forsyte Saga – Masterpiece PBC/Mammoth Screen  

Where? The Bottle Yard Studios and Bristol 

Adapted from John Galsworthy’s book of the same name, this new 6-part series follows the lives of the wealthy Forsyte family in 1880s London. Bristol Film Office supported this shoot, which began filming at the end of April in the city.  

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light – BBC/Masterpiece PBS 

Where? The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol 

Hilary Mantel’s epic historical drama is being adapted for screen again, this time her third and final novel The Mirror and the Light. The production wrapped filming at The Bottle Yard Studios in mid-April.

East & South East

Greenland: Migration – Lionsgate/STX 

Where? Shinfield Studios in Reading and Alton in Hampshire  

A sequel to 2020 Gerard Butler led thriller Greenland is on its way, with production underway at Shinfield Studios and in the town of Alton in Hampshire. For the second film, Butler and his family will embark on a journey through a post-apocalyptic frozen wasteland of Europe.

The Awakening – Camelot Media 

Where? Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire  

Produced by Camelot Media, The Awakening is a new film which will see Justin Tinto play a man who discovers a global conspiracy and sets out to awaken the world. The shoot is underway at Pinewood Studios.

The Witcher Season 4 – Platige Films/Netflix  

Where? Longcross Studios, Surrey  

Another season of fantasy hit The Witcher is coming our way! Following Henry Cavil’s exist, Liam Hemsworth will be taking over as Geralt, with the shoot taking place at Longcross Studios in Surrey.

Gladiator II – Universal Pictures 

Where? Devil’s Dyke, West Sussex 

In case you hadn’t heard, Ridley Scott is creating a sequel to his 2000 film Gladiator with Paul Mescal in the lead role. Though initial filming took place in Morocco, cast and crew have been filming at the iconic Devil’s Dyke in Sussex this June.

Promenade – Frank and Lively  

Where? Brighton, East Sussex  

Promenade will follow a community of people living together in an old mansion called the Fletcher Apartments – this unique film will tie together over 50 stories and 23 stories.

  

North East  

8 Years Later – DNA Films/Sony 

Where? Northumberland  

Danny Boyle’s third film in the 28 Days Later saga has been shooting in Northumberland. 28 Years Later has an all-star cast of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes – plus, Alex Garland joins Boyle as co-writer.

Vera Season 14 – Silverprint Pictures/ITV 

Where? Northumberland 

ITV have confirmed that Season 14 will be the final run of much-loved detective drama Vera, with production taking place in the North East this spring and summer.
